Heartwell set to lead 'rebellion': "GRAND RAPIDS -- Mayor George Heartwell says he's so mad, he's ready to take on President Bush.

After enduring the 'toughest week' of his 13 months in office, Heartwell said Tuesday he wants to 'start a rebellion' against Bush's budget proposal to cut federal funding for local communities by 50 percent.

'He has to address the deficit he created with massive tax cuts that benefit the wealthiest Americans; and he has to fund a war that is expensive and unpopular,' Heartwell said.

'So he targets the poor and the unemployed -- and in most cases the minorities, because racism has rendered them the poorest -- to shoulder the burden of tax relief and funding for the war.

'Well, because the poor are outside our doors -- because they are our neighbors -- local government is once again holding the bag.' "

Lautenberg Requests All Documents From White House Relating to Discredited "Journalist" James D. Guckert, A.K.A. Jeff Gannon

WASHINGTON, DC -- In light of yet another scandal involving the Bush administration's manipulation of the media, United States Senator Frank R. Lautenberg (D-NJ) today requested from White House Press Secretary Scott McClellan all the documents relating to the press credentials of James. D. Guckert, a.k.a. "Jeff Gannon"; the "journalist" now famous for being the White House correspondent for his softball questioning of President Bush and various Administration spokespeople.

"I am writing to request that you immediately release documents to my office relating to the White House press credentials of James D. Guckert, a.k.a. "Jeff Gannon." Specifically, I am seeking documentation related to the question of which name Mr. Guckert/Gannon used when applying for credentials, and which name was on the official White House press credentials he received," wrote Lautenberg.

"As you may know, Mr. Guckert/Gannon was denied a Congressional press pass because he could not show that he wrote for a valid news organization. Given the fact that he was denied Congressional credentials, I seek your explanation of how Mr. Guckert/Gannon passed muster for White House press credentials," Lautenberg wrote.

Senator Lautenberg has been the Senate leader in exposing the Bush administration's propaganda efforts.

The charge against Sabrina Harman, over viewing and failing to prevent other soldiers from forcing detainees to masturbate, was dropped without discussion. The charge carried a maximum sentence of five years.
Harman now faces five counts of maltreatment, one count of of conspiracy and one count of dereliction of duty.
When charges were filed in March, she faced a maximum 17-year sentence.
The latest dropped charge reduced the possible maximum sentence to 6.5 years, said Captain Patsy Takemura, Harman's military lawyer.
The Government dropped four other charges against her in August.
Harman still faces four counts over taking or posing in photographs depicting detainees in sexually humiliating poses - including the naked pyramid photo.
She is also accused of attaching wires to a hooded detainee and telling him he would be electrocuted if he fell off the box on which he was standing.
Attorneys for Harman argued that charges related to the photographs of hooded detainees should be dismissed, because victims must be aware of abuse in order to be abused. "
