Riding in on a wave of partisan spirit and media buzz that was cranked up another notch with Monday's celebrity-studded Gotham premiere, Michael Moore's 'Fahrenheit 9/11' will open in New York on Wednesday, two days ahead of the controversial doc's national release.
The premiere engagement will play on the Upper West Side at Lincoln Plaza Cinemas and in the East Village at Loews Cineplex Village, prior to expanding to additional Manhattan screens with the nationwide opening June 25.

The majority of lead critics from major New York dailies already have weighed in on "Fahrenheit 9/11" from Cannes with mostly positive reviews.

Tom Ortenberg, president of Lions Gate Films Releasing said the release will go out on more than 700 prints nationally, including several dozen in the New York metropolitan area. Those numbers will be finalized Monday.
