Waterloo/Cedar Falls Courier: Iowa State alumni upset over filmmaker Michael Moore's campus appearance

Waterloo/Cedar Falls Courier Online -: "AMES, Iowa -- Some Iowa State University alumni have threatened to cut their financial support to the university because of filmmaker Michael Moore's scheduled appearance on campus, university President Gregory Geoffroy said.

Moore, whose films include 'Fahrenheit 9/11' and 'Bowling for Columbine,' is scheduled to speak at Hilton Coliseum on Sunday.

'I have heard from a few donors who are not happy that Mr. Moore is coming,' Geoffroy said. 'And as part of their unhappiness, they have expressed their unwillingness to continue their support of the university.'

Geoffroy said the number of people who have complained is small. He said he has answered each complaint and explained that Moore was invited by student committees and that there are no plans to cancel the event.

Moore's visit is part of his 60-city 'Slacker Uprising Tour,' targeted at student voters.

At the University of Nevada, 15 donors and alumni asked the student government to cancel Moore's Oct. 13 appearance. They also offered $100,000 to bring in a conservative speaker to debate Moore. The student government rejected the offer."
